Bach & Brownies

The grand opening of Mountain Arts on Broadway, MMAC's new art center in Mountainair, New Mexico.

Join us in supporting the growth of the arts in Mountainair and the Manzano Mountains area. Two things you can do to support the arts here are to join MMAC and to donate to MMAC!

When you join the Manzano Mountain Art Council, your dues go directly to the programs MMAC offers for the community and for the artists in our area, and demonstrate to granting agencies that MMAC has grassroots support.

It’s easy to join. Download this membership form (pdf document) and send it with your check to the Manzano Mountain Art Council, P.O. Box 534, Mountainair, New Mexico 87036.

But don't stop there!!  Everyone involved in putting on our events is a volunteer, and major events like the Sunflower Folk Art Day need many, many volunteers.  Like you!  We need helpers for everything from putting up canopies to placing posters around town and around the area, or manning the Quilt Raffle ticket sales table, or helping with clean-up after the festival.  We need people who enjoy writing to assist with publicity and with grant writing.  We need anyone who has an idea for an event or performance that will engage and uplift our audiences to at least share that idea with us—and at best to help arrange for performers or space or publicity or seating.  If everyone who loves art, music, dance, or just plain old having fun does at least a little bit to help with the Art Council activities, then we can create a lively and flourishing home for the arts in Mountainair and nearby communities.

Contact us and ask how you can help.  Or tell us how you can help!  Use the handy dandy form at the right and just jump in!

2011 Fundraising Campaign
for entertainment, programming and Sunflower Festival —
Please DONATE using the button at right!

MMAC is actively seeking donations in five major areas:
Children:
We plan to supplement programs and classes directed at area school children, who have had their afterschool program and summer school eliminated by budget cuts. The recent week-long artist’s residency of two Santa Fe Opera members engaged Mountainair Elementary School children who delivered an inspiring performance about their view of the community. A $1000 donation from an MMAC member’s family foundation went toward the $3500 cost.

Civic: The Community Mosaic program needs funding, materials and volunteers. Businesses pay only a portion of the cost while MMAC grantors and donors support the rest.  We have produced five murals to beautify the Mountainair downtown district and attract cultural tourism. Other communities have asked for expertise and assistance in developing murals. Mountain Arts on Broadway mural classes starting soon, will educate anyone interested in this artform.

Support the Art Center: The building, which will house workshops, classes, artists and performances for the community will cost about $5000 a year to run. In addition contributions are needed purchase chairs and other items.

The Sunflower Festival costs thousands of dollars for entertainment, building rental and advertising state-wide. The day-long festival attracts tourists providing revenue for area artists and businesses and entertains all who attend. While vendor fees generate income, there are no guarantees that it will offset expenses. Your support ensures the future of this local tradition.

Cultural Programming: MMAC offers diverse cultural programming attracting people from Mountainair, the Estancia Valley and beyond. New Mexico Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts have made grants to make these programs possible. Because granting organizations and foundations are struggling, we anticipate fewer dollars, as well as more competition and effort to obtain them. Your membership demonstrates your commitment to MMAC’s overall efforts and strengthens our standing with grantors.
